There
are fourteen regional councils in the State of Michigan and all are members
of the Michigan Association of Regions (MAR). Regional councils number more
than 500 in the United States, operating in all but Alaska, Hawaii, New
Jersey, and Rhode Island. These regional councils operate under different
names such as regional planning commissions, councils of government, and
economic or local development districts.
